What happens to your answers

We don’t keep them. Your answers go to our server to do the sums and aren’t stored or logged. If you copy a link to your answers, they’re in the link itself, so only share it with people you trust.

How it’s worked out

You give up part of your salary in return for the bike, usually over 12 months. You don't pay income tax or National Insurance on the pay you give up, so the bike costs you the price less your tax and National Insurance rate.

Worked example

A £1,500 bike through the cycle to work scheme costs you £1,080, a saving of £420 (28%).

2026/27 tax year · salary £40,000 · paid within the tax year

Worked example, step by step
Bike and safety kit£1,500
Less the income tax you don't pay− £300
Less the National Insurance you don't pay− £120
Cost to you£1,080
