How it’s worked out

Married couples and civil partners are taxed 50:50 on joint property by default. If you really own it in other shares, you can tell HMRC on Form 17 and be taxed on those shares. We try every split from 0% to 100% and find the one with the least tax.

Worked example

Taking 0% of the rent yourself and 100% for your partner would save £2,000 a year.

Questions people ask

Can we just declare a different split?
