Your tax freedom day

If everything you earned from 6 April went to HMRC first, the day you'd start working for yourself.

Scotland has its own income tax rates.

Your payslip shows this. If you're not sure, we'll use the most common way and tell you how much it matters.

Most workplace pensions take 5%.

How it’s worked out

Questions people ask

Does it count VAT and other taxes?

No. It counts income tax and National Insurance on your pay only. VAT, fuel duty and council tax would push the day later.
